LOCAL
RESORT
UPDATES
Deer
Valley
Resort
Deer
Valley made big news
this summer with
the announcement
of an operations
agreement with
Mayflower Mountain,
which will nearly
triple the size of
Deer Valley's
terrain. The new
terrain is
set to open for the
2025 - 2026 ski
season. In the
meantime, Deer
Valley is continuing
to work on development
plans for Snow
Park, with
the aim to add a
transportation hub,
dining amenities,
underground parking,
and ski lifts. This
project is
undergoing continued
evaluation, as
described in a KPCW
segment
earlier
this week.

Park
City
Mountain
Resort
Park
City Mountain will
be celebrating its
60th
Anniversary this
year. The
celebrations will
include signature
events, concerts,
and art
installations. In
addition to the
anniversary
celebrations, the
resort has worked
over the summer to
elevate the dining
experience across
the mountain, with
new dishes available
at many of its
restaurants. On the
lifts, guests will
also enjoy an
improved
ride at the Red
Pine Gondola, with
new
gondola cars
that offer
smoother operations
and 360-degree
views. Looking
toward the future,
Park City has also
announced plans for
a new
10-person
Sunrise
Gondola at
the Canyons Village
base. This new
gondola aims to
decrease lift
waiting
times and will
replace the present
Sunrise
lift.
Soldier
Hollow
During
the summer, Soldier
Hollow began
construction on a
series of
improvements to its
competition
building. This
project will add
19,115 square feet
to the current
competition building
to supplement an
overhaul of 7,670
existing square
feet. These
upgrades will
dramatically improve
the ability to host
competition events.
The construction is
set for substantial
completion by the
end of February
2024.

project

Weather
models
indicate a
shift in weather
patterns for the
2023 - 2024 ski
season due
to El Niño
conditions following
three consecutive La
Niña winters. This
El Niño is expected
to be particularly
strong.
|
|
|
What
does that mean for the
Rockies? During El
Niño-intense winters,
the Northern U.S.
Rockies tend to
experience milder and
less wet conditions than
usual, while the
Southern Rockies
in New Mexico,
Arizona, and Southern
Utah tend to have
chillier and snow-filled
winters. The Central
Rockies don't show a
pattern as consistently.
Northern Utah and
Western Colorado are
inclined to experience
drier winters, while the
area around Colorado's
Continental Divide does
not display a clear
trend.
